Company – Angel Trains

Charity – The Wildlife Trust

Sixteen employees from one of the UK’s leading train leasing specialists, Angel Trains, swapped a day from the tracks to a day in the Yorkshire Dales.

Under the guidance of staff from The Wildlife Trust (TWT) and professional instructors brought in by Business Volunteers, the team learned the traditional countryside skill of dry stone walling.

“We’ve one of the best natural landscapes in the UK,” said Dave Savage from the TWT.  Dry stone walls are so important for wildlife and the heritage of the Dales.  Repairing and rebuilding is timely on your own but with a team of volunteers it helps us tremendously.”

“It’s great to get outdoors and do something completely different.” said Dave Dempsey from Angel Trains. “Days like this are great for team building and it’s really rewarding to achieve something in a day. It was like building a huge long jigsaw”

On a warm Summer’s day, the team took on advice and guidance from the professionals to slowly build new walls.  A barbecue lunch provided by Business Volunteers was cooked by members of the team as part of the day.

“The team was fantastic and really committed.” said Dave Savage from TWT. “It would have taken me well over a month to do what they all did in a day. We can’t thank you enough.

Mark Hicks, technical director of Angel Trains, travelled from London to join the team for the day. He said: “It was a great challenge and very well organised by Business Volunteers.  It’s great to see us all pull together and listen to the camaraderie between the team as we help a charity local to our office.”
